How to wipe your data properly before a buyback

Factory resets, account locks and what our agents check so your personal data never leaves with the device.

Your data should never travel with a sold device. A proper wipe is not optional etiquette — it is the difference between a clean handoff and a security headache later.

For phones and tablets, back up first, then remove every account lock. iCloud Activation Lock and Google Factory Reset Protection are the two big ones. If either remains, the device is effectively unsellable until you unlock it.

Run the built-in erase flow and wait until you see the first-time setup screen. That is the proof the wipe completed. Logging out of apps alone is not enough.

For laptops, sign out of cloud accounts, remove saved passwords where you can, then reset Windows or macOS to factory settings. If the machine uses FileVault or BitLocker, decrypt or reset through the official OS path so the next owner is not blocked.

At Gadget Deel pickup, our agent also completes a certified factory reset and data wipe in front of you before the device leaves. You get wipe confirmation on your bill — so you are not relying on hope.
