Selling a phone should feel simple — but a few small steps before pickup can protect your privacy and often improve what you get paid. Think of this as a 15-minute prep list, not a weekend project.
Start with a backup. Even if you are moving to a new device, keep one clean copy of photos, chats and important files somewhere you control. Once the wipe is done, recovery gets harder than people expect.
Next, sign out of everything that ties the phone to you: iCloud / Find My, Google account, Samsung account, WhatsApp, banking apps and work profiles. A locked phone is almost impossible to resell, and locked accounts are the most common reason quotes get revised at the door.
Then do a proper factory reset. On iPhones, erase all content and settings after removing Find My. On Android, use the system reset and confirm the setup screen appears without asking for the old Google password.
Finally, gather what you have — original box, charger, bill or even a spare case. Accessories are not required, but they can add a small premium and make verification faster.
